Distressing wood can be done many ways. We will cover the sanding and staining method in this article.

Supplies needed
Something Wooden (Plate, Cabinet, Box)
Sander or sand paper
Paint
Paint Brush
Stain
Rag for Staining
Newspaper (to keep the mess small)
Rubber Gloves ( Stain does just what it says!)

Ok lets get started...

Take your wooden item, paint it. It does not have to be a perfect paint job because you are going to sand spots off.
When the paint dries sand the edges and various spots on your piece. When you are through sanding put your gloves on and stain the piece. I like to use special walnut in Minwax© because it creates a nice finish. Stain the entire piece, even the parts not sanded. Now wasn`t that easy? If you want to get really creative paint black on the piece and then another color over the black so when you sand it some of the black shows through. This technique works on wood, paper mache, metal, the list is endless. After you are through remember to clean your brushes and put the lids on the paint and stain. Now you have a beautiful piece to use anywhere in your primitive home!!

Christie Beach, co-owner of Out of the Barn Primitives
Christie Beach and Ashley Runion started Out of the Barn Primitives out of a desire to create high quality candles that are unique and yet will fill your home with a cozy warm aroma. Their online business has brought the opportunity to open a physical store in their Ohio hometown where they carry primitive furniture, dolls and of course their unique primitive candles.
